Thrissur Division (1729.092 Ha)
This division includes the subunit Mayannur, Chembankandam, Vettiyil estate and Pakuthipalam under the forest range of Vadakanchery, Machad, Pattikad, Walayar and Nelliyampathy.
Flora and Fauna
Thrissur division consists of tropical evergreen forests, tropical deciduous forests and wetlands (Thrissur Kole wetlands). Calophyllum polyanthum, Syzigium cumini, Mesua ferrea, Terminalia tomentosa etc. are some of the indigenous species found here. Indian giant squirrel, Purple heron, Shikra, Asian common toad, Nilgiri langur, Asian elephant, tiger, Lion tailed macaque and dhole etc. makes up the faunal composition of this area.
Community
The subunit of Pakuthipalam has community-based activities. The Coffee and cardamom plantations of Nelliyampathy functions for the welfare of our communities residing in the area. The members of the communities include the Srilankan repatriates and the local tribes who work as tourist guides under Nelliyampathy ecotourism.
Ecotourism
The beauty of the dense forests of the Western Ghats are a real sight to behold. The vast stretches of Palakkad district are visible with its extensive paddy fields forming a verdant carpet once the winding ghat road is traversed.
